How to use: IBPS left thumb impression (240 × 240)
- 1Press your left thumb on an ink pad and roll it gently onto plain white paper.
- 2Let the ink dry, then photograph the print in good light from straight above.
- 3Add the photo here. The 240 × 240 px size and 20–50 KB range are filled in.
- 4Press "Make it fit"; the full print is kept on a white square.
- 5Download the JPG and upload it in the thumb impression box.
Getting a clear print
A good thumb impression shows the ridge lines, not a solid blob. Use a little ink, press without sliding, and lift straight up. If the first print is too dark, a second one from the same inking is often perfect. Blue and black ink both work; avoid red.
Why the clean-up is off here
For signatures this page offers a clean-up that turns grey paper white, but a fingerprint has fine grey ridges that matter. The tool keeps your print as it is and only resizes it, adding white space around it so no part of the impression is cut off.
Part of the IBPS set
The thumb impression goes with your photo, signature and handwritten declaration. Prepare all four before you start the form: the session can time out while you go looking for an ink pad.
Frequently asked questions
Which thumb do I use?
The left thumb, unless you do not have one. IBPS notices explain what to do in that case, usually using the right thumb and mentioning it where asked.
Can I use a pen to draw over a faint print?
No. Retake the print with more ink instead. The impression must show the natural ridges of your thumb.
What is 240 × 240 pixels on paper?
At the 200 DPI the notice refers to, it is about 3 cm × 3 cm. The print itself should sit comfortably inside that square.
