Change your photo background to white

Took a photo at home with a cupboard or curtain behind you? Add it here and the background becomes plain white (or light blue or grey) while you stay exactly as you are. The AI runs inside your browser, so the photo never leaves your device.

Files stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

How to use: Change photo background to white

  1. 1Take a photo facing the camera, from the chest up, in good light. Any background is fine.
  2. 2Add it here and choose white, light blue or light grey.
  3. 3Press "Make background white". The first time, the AI model (about 10 MB) downloads once.
  4. 4Zoom in on the hair and shoulders, then download the JPG.
  5. 5Use "Continue with" to resize it for your exam form or make a print sheet.

Why forms reject photos for the background

Exam boards and passport offices ask for a plain white or light background because it keeps the face clear in verification and on printed admit cards. A photo taken in a room, with a door, shelf or patterned curtain behind you, is one of the most common reasons an uploaded photo is rejected later, even after the form was accepted.

How it works

The tool uses MODNet, an open AI model trained to separate a person from what is behind them, including soft edges like hair. It works out how much of each pixel belongs to you, then blends the rest into the colour you chose. Nothing is pasted or redrawn, so your face, clothes and skin tone stay exactly as photographed.

After the background is white

Most forms also need an exact size. Send the result to the exam photo resizer to set the pixels or centimetres, DPI and KB range, or to the passport photo print sheet to print 8 copies on one 4 × 6 photo.

Frequently asked questions

Is my photo uploaded to a server to remove the background?

No. The background is removed by a small AI model that runs inside your browser, on your phone or computer. Your photo is never sent anywhere, which matters for a picture of your face.

Why does it take a few seconds the first time?

The AI model and the engine that runs it are about 10 MB together and download the first time you use the tool. After that they are kept in your browser, so the next photos start straight away, even offline.

The edges around my hair look rough. How do I get a cleaner result?

Stand a little away from the wall, use even light from the front, and make sure your hair is not the same colour as the background. A sharp photo with good light gives the cleanest edges.

Will the photo pass as a passport or exam photo after this?

It fixes the background. The photo still has to meet the other rules, like a recent picture, face straight to the camera and no caps or dark glasses. Then resize it to the pixels and KB your form asks for.
