What makes a good passport-size photo
- Plain, light background, ideally white, with no patterns or shadows.
- Face the camera straight on, eyes open, neutral expression, mouth closed.
- Head centred, with both ears visible and a small gap above the hair.
- No caps or sunglasses. Remove spectacles if they cause glare.
- Even lighting from the front; avoid strong side light that darkens half the face.
Pixels vs printing
On screen a photo has pixels; on paper it has millimetres. At 300 DPI (print quality), 35 mm equals 413 pixels and 45 mm equals 531 pixels. Print the downloaded file at 100% scale on a 300 DPI printer and it comes out exactly 35 × 45 mm.
Need a sheet of prints?
Use JPG to PDF with page size A4 and add the photo several times, then print the PDF at actual size and cut the photos out.
