- 3Press "Compress image to 50 KB".
- 4Download the photo, or all photos as one ZIP.
Where you’ll meet a 50 KB limit
University and school admission portals, scholarship applications, state recruitment boards and many job sites ask for a photograph under 50 KB. It’s a sweet spot: small enough for their servers, large enough for a clearly recognisable face.
What 50 KB gets you
At 50 KB a typical head-and-shoulders photo can stay around 600×800 pixels with good detail. That is more than most forms display, so you have room to keep the photo sharp. If your form also lists exact dimensions, the photo will look its best when it’s resized to those dimensions before compressing.
If the result is rejected
- “File too large”: some portals count 1 KB as 1000 bytes. Set the target to 48 KB to be safe.
- “Invalid format”: make sure the file ends in
.jpg. Renaming a PNG to .jpg is not enough; compress it here instead.
Frequently asked questions
Will a 50 KB photo look blurry?
For a passport-style photo, no. 50 KB is enough for a clear face at the sizes forms display. Blurriness usually comes from starting with a low-quality copy, so use the original camera photo.
Can I compress several photos to 50 KB at once?
Yes. Add as many photos as you like and each one is compressed to 50 KB separately. Download them all together as a ZIP.
The portal says JPEG only. Is the result JPEG?
Yes. By default the output is a standard .jpg file, which every portal that accepts JPEG will take.
Do you keep a copy of my photo?
No. The photo is processed in your browser and never sent anywhere.
